Alpha Epsilon Phi was founded on October 24, 1909 at Barnard College in Harlem, New York City. The mission is " to inspire and support exemplary women dedicated to friendship and a lifelong commitment to Alpha Epsilon Phi while building on the vision of our Jewish founders". Although it is traditionally a Jewish sorority, it welcomes women of all religions and race. Notable alumnae include: Lillian Copeland (Olympic gold medalist), Erica Hill (CNN host) and Judith Resnik (2nd female astronaut).
