 Alpha Sigma Alpha was founded on November 15, 1901 at the Virginia State Female Normal School (later known as Longwood College and now Longwood University). Currently there are over 175 chapters of Alpha Sigma Alpha nationwide, with over more than 70,000 members. The mascot is Dot the ladybug, officially adopted in 2008. Notable alumnae include: Dorcas Bates Reilly (created green bean casserole), Denise Swanson (author) and Angie Cole (actress and assistant producer).
