Purdue University was founded on May 8, 1869 as a land-grant university when the Indiana General Assembly utilized the Morrill Act and accepted a donation of land and money from a business man named John Purdue. Purdue University's engineering, education and business programs continue to be ranked among the best in the country in U.S. News & World Report's graduate school rankings.
