Sigma Chi was founed on June 28th, 1855 under the name Sigma Phi Fraternity. The theft of the Sigma Phi rituals, constitution, seals and other records from a room belonging to a founding member, caused the men to change the name to Sigma Chi. Currently there are over 230 active chapters and more than 300,000 initiated members in the United States and Canada. Notable Sigma Chi alumni include: Brad Pitt (actor), Drew Brees (NFL qb), Grover Cleveland (U.S. President) and Mike Ditka (NFL coach).
